If you think you'll get a headache, you will get a headache. If you think it's going to be a terrible day, it will be an awful one. Think tummy upsets, and just as assuredly this to will occur. How much of life, and the symptoms thereof are "all in the mind". An old saying goes "As a man (woman) thinks, so is he (she)". This is true as most know, but it is amazing that the thoughts are largely in our own hands. Think negative thoughts of sadness, misery, depression and ill health, and that is your template for the day. If this is reversed, and positive thoughts are injected into your neurones then you awaken, the day can be brimful of marvellous outcomes.

POSITIVE THOUGHTS

Positive thoughts generate positive activities, positive results. Many set goals the previous night when climbing into bed. It is a good idea to "picturise in the minds eye" the happy positive events you wish to occur the following day. Let them drift into your subconscious. See them actually occurring. Picture good health, lots of energy, fulfilling appointments, winning the battle, overcoming obstacles. Some write a list in advance, read this, turn out the light, and then set to work on the brains inner screen. Many are stooped down with depression, anxiety, the stress of living. That too can largely be overcome by ones thoughts. But next day, as part of the "getting up and running" are other events.

TALK TO OTHERS

Liaising with others, taking a positive approach, going for a walk (if you have time), sitting, closing the eyes and going over the positive programme during the day - it only takes ten seconds. The more outgoing a person can be, the more you "share yourself" with others, the greater dilution of negatives. Ideally, positive friends in the social circle beat a bunch of persons who only see the negative side of life. Sure, a cup of coffee will help kick start the neurones, but don't flog them to death with chemicals, be it excessive coffee, tea, cola drinks or choccies (the same chemical pervades them all). Remember, food and booze do not solve challenges either. They marginally help, but the aftermath is not always good. Sharing problems with your dog (the best) or cat (not bad also) is very soothing. You mum, dad and best friends are also good people to have around, and will usually see your point of view. Make sure you continue talking to them, if they are still with you and on planet earth. We only have one mum and one dad - without them we would not be around, and they care, come what may. Have a good day.

 
MALE GENITAL MUTILATION

Q: 

I was circumcised as an infant, had no say in the matter, regret my parents actions, but it is now too late to do anything.

A: 

Your parents did what the majority of parents probably did when you were an infant. It was often carried out within the first week of birth. Today, yes it is certainly regarded by many as genital mutilation, the same as "female circumcision" is in girls. The latter is now banned in western countries but is still rampant in some cultures. One of the few known benefits is that HIV infection is less in circumcised males, but this is a pretty minor consideration for most. Nature gave humans everything for a good reason. Protecting the very sensitive penile head called the "glans" was a major one. Risks from chafing, heat, infections in general is pretty low in the non circumcised. Today it is not routinely carried out unless under specific instruction. Usually from Dads who were similarly attacked as infants.

DARK CHOCOLATE

Q: 

Which is best, dark or light milk chocolate?

A: 

For chocoholics choccie is choccie, and to hell with "the best"!. A typical serve of choccie is about 40g. This equals 884 kJ of energy, 3.0g protein, 16.4g total fat (of which 10g is the evil saturated kind), 13g total carbohydrate and a bit of sodium. Many choccies may have much more sugar content. Light choccies containing dairy products are also higher in fat content. Many claim a modest amount of dark choccies have properties which benefit the heart and vessels.

SNEEZE

Q: 

Why do we sneeze?

A: 

This is usually nature's way of telling the body to get rid of unwanted products called antigens, to which it is allergic. Often these come via the respiratory system. So a good sneeze may suddenly force them out.

ADULT PIMPLES

Q: 

I am mid thirties and seem to have a recurrence of teenage acne which is an embarrassment.

A: 

This is probably "rosacea", fat over production and may be inflammation similarly occurring in superficial glands. These swell often under hormonal influences. Management is similar to acne treatment. Rozex is a specific application that seems to help many. Also, try and avoid spicy sauces and foods, some fizz and hot drinks that may cause facial vasodilatation and flushing, for this exacerbates the condition.

EAR LOOPS

Q: 

I am a teenager and love wearing loops and hoops in my ears. However, I recently caught one of these and it severely injured my ear I wish to pass this caution onto other teenagers who may not have given this any thought.

A: 

Ask any ER medic and you'll be told heaps of similar stories. Some have the ear ripped off, profuse bleeding and perhaps the need for plastic surgery repair. Great loops are wonderful, empowering, and improve self esteem. Consider risks also.
