DR WRIGHTS JANUARY HEALTH BULLETIN

Hello Reader

HAPPY HEALTHY NEW YEAR

A New Year has just crept over the horizon. Here are a few simple “Health Tips”. First, eat sensibly. Three simple meals daily, ideally with minimum fat, sugars (starches) and salt are best. Avoid fried junk, and fast foods. Heaps of other good stuff is available. Drink at least 1.5 to 2.0 glasses of tap water a day. That’s 6 to 8 glasses – easy and costless. Avoid fizz drinks laden with sugar, chemicals and useless calories (kJs).

GOOD SLEEP EACH NIGHT

Aim for 8 hours sleep a night. Don’t try and scrimp. That’s when the body repairs itself for the next day, brain and muscles included. Look in the mirror. Are you overweight? Shedding unwanted kilos is simple. Just stop eating sugar products. Avoid them when shopping. Easy! Women need a smear test 2-3 yearly (from age 20), and regular mammogram 50 and over. Guys need a prostate check from 40 on.

ANNUAL GP CHECK

A GP check annually is advised. A blood test provides enormous information indicating treatment if abnormal, includes sugar, and diabetes if over 6. Today, a colonoscopy can prevent bowel cancer (best from age 45). Smoking is lethal and a definite No! No! Aim for regular exercise. Ideally 7,500 steps a day is fine. 10,000 is even better, roughly 45 minutes walking. Forget running and jogging - too hard. Think positive thoughts about everything, and be determined to keep happy.
